Corporate Projects

Through his ongoing support of educational programs and various corporate philanthropy projects, John W. Scherer continues to give back to his community. His donations of computers, software, scholarships, and program funding have helped make a difference for individuals and charitable organizations across the country.

John W. Scherer accepts a community award on behalf of Video Professor.

Scholarship Funds
A direct descendent of both John and Joseph Naper, Scherer is a dedicated supporter of Naperville, the Illinois city founded by his family.

Each spring, two exceptional students from Naperville Central High School receive a college education from a scholarship endowed by John W. Scherer through the Naperville Education Fund. Scherer's gift awards one athletic and one academic scholarship each year.

Scherer also funds a scholarship in his name at his college alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Supporting American Troops
To show his support and appreciation for America's troops serving overseas, John W. Scherer has pledged to provide each U.S solider with a free Video Professor tutorial of their choice. All active-duty military personnel interested in taking advantage of this offer can select a free tutorial from over 25 Video Professor titles.

John W. Scherer has also donated a complete computer lab to the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. for wounded veterans to use during their recovery. Each patient at Walter Reed will be given access to the complete Video Professor tutorial library as well.

These contributions are intended to give America's troops and wounded veterans the opportunity to gain new and marketable skills that can aid them in their future transition back to civilian life.

Tutorial Donations
As a leader in computer education, John W. Scherer is committed to supporting computer literacy programs by donating thousands of Video Professor computer tutorials each year.

These tutorials help individuals learn computer skills, which empowers them to get better jobs, excel in school or rehabilitate from illness or hardship.

Video Professor has made donations to the following organizations:

Habitat Thrift Store, Broomfield, CO
An on-going project is Video Professor’s work with the Habitat Thrift Store in Broomfield, CO. Video Professor donates software lessons on a regular basis which are literally used around the world, including:

Habitat for Humanity Families
Single Moms Along the Front Range
Lost Boys of Sudan
Community Mental Health Center
U.S. Army, Iraq
Kenya Refugee Center, New Hope Ministries
Prodigal Son Homeless Teen Center

Additionally, the group found out that soldiers in Iraq were waiting in lines as long as 30-50 people just to be able to use a computer to send e-mails back home. Video Professor donated 30 Office PCs to the Habitat Thrift Store, and today those PCs are being used by our troops on a daily basis as part of an Internet Cafe (located in one of Saddam Hussein's former palaces) — and not only to send e-mails. Video Professor lessons accompanied each PC!

Chickasaw Nation, Ardmore, OK
Over 5,000 Getting Started with Your PC lessons were donated to the Oklahoma-based Chickasaw Nation computer literacy project. The project organizes donations of refurbished computers and software to be used by Native Americans in the region. Computer literacy among the Native American population is currently less than 10%. The donated Video Professor tutorials are intended to educate and increase overall computer proficiency levels.
